Shin Hanga: Ten Types of Female Nude: At the Bath

Artist: Ishikawa Toraji
Format: Dai oban tate-e: 19" x 15" approx

Subject: From the fine series 'Ten Types of Female Nude', a young woman at the bath.

A student of Koyama Shotaro, Toraji Ishikawa entered his paintings in several exhibitions of the Meiji Fine Arts Society. One of the founding members of the Taiheiyo Gakai in 1901, he traveled in Europe and the US in the early 1900s. He exhibited at the Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco in 1915. Toraji received the Imperial Award of the Japan Art Academy in 1950. His prints include Inland Sea Landscapes (1930s) and the series "Ten Types of Female Nudes" (1934).

Condition: Full size. Minor marks and flaws. Generally fine state.

Colour: Fine 1st edition impression with gauffrage, (1st editions distinguished by the absence of the Japanese character in right margin, which was added for the second edition onwards).
