| Notes (this edition) These notes were written by the original owner/seller/auctioner of the item and may be inaccurate.: | This is the first edition. Up for auction is an original antique Japanese woodblock print by Bakufu Ohno and dates from 1949. This is a 1st printing and was printed by Kyoto-Hangain. The woodblock print is from the series "Flowers and Birds" and is titled "Bee and Flowers". Signed in the lower corner and marked on the edges as seen in the photos. Great colorful image and has awesome detail. In excellent condition with no tears, no holes, no folds, no creases, no water damage, no fading and no fauxing. The woodblock print has never been framed and the color is excellent. No trimmed or cut edges. Actual woodblock print measures approx. 16 1/4 by 11 inches. |
This excellent example of a shin hanga Japanese woodblock print is by Bakufu Ohno (1888-1976). I do not know the title of the print. Various web sources list its first date of publication as before 1951 and the publisher as Kyoto hanga-in. I do not know if this is a first edition of this print. This print is signed "B Ohno" in the lower right and his seal is there also. I believe the left margin contains the publisher痴 seal. the print measures 14 1/4" x 9 1/4" image (15 3/8" x 10 3/8" sheet). I do not believe it has been trimmed. If it has, it is only the lower margin which is a little small. The print looks lightly faded because there is a line 1/16" from the top of the image which is very slightly darker blue than the rest of the sky. But the colors in general seem pretty strong. There is a small rub about 1" down from the upper margin, above the bee. |
