Description "Washington Kinento - Potomac kahan" (The Washington Monument on the Potomac river. This design was privately commissioned by Takezo SHIOTA in San Francisco. Unlike Hiroshi Yoshida, his equally beluminous fellow Shin Hanga artist, he seldom travelled outside Japan. This one is probably the only design showing a scenery of USA.
Note No Watanabe copyright seal because it was privately commissioned. On the bottom margin, it says, "Hanken Shoyu-sha, Shioda Takezo" (Copyright belongs to Shioda Takezo).

This is an genuine original shin hanga Japanese woodblock print by Kawase Hasui, titled "Washington Monument, and dated 1935 . The print is sealed and signed in sumi at the lower left corner. The print was published by Watanabe Shozaburo. The edition on this print was 300.
The print is in fine (pristine) condition. Excellent impression, color registration, and bleedthrough. No foxing, toning, folds or creases. The print is not trimmed or setdown. There is woodgrain visible in the upper right portion of the print indicating a very early copy. Print size is 10.25" x 15".
This is a genuine original oban size shin hanga Japanese woodblock print by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) titled "Washington kineto Potomakku kahan" (Washington Monument on the Potomac River), and dated Showa 10, August (1935). The print was published by Watanabe Shozaburo but does not bear any Watanabe seal, as the print was privately commissioned in 1934 in an edition of 300. This print is number 358 in the Kendall Brown/Hotei Hasui Catalog Raisonne.
The print is in extremely fine condition. Excellent impression, very good color, excellent registration and good bleedthrough. No foxing, toning, folds or creases. The print is not trimmed or setdown. The print has never been framed our mounted..
