Original Japanese woodblock print by Nakayama Shuko (dates unknown), titled "August - Shy" from the series "Shin Ukiyoe Awase" (Collection of New Ukiyo-e Beauties), 1924. This design was published by Murakami. And is illustrated at plate 132 in. According to the Editor's Notes on page 202 of "The Female Image: 20th Century Prints of Japanese Beauties", Amy Reigle Newland and Hamanaka Shinji, eds., 2000, the Collection of New Ukiyo-e Beauties contains a number of sets of twelve images on the theme of the 12 months by different artists.
The print is slightly faded and lightly soiled and rubbed. There is a thin spot in the bottom right image and a light crease to the top left corner. The image measures 15 1/8 by 9 1/4 inches, plus margins.

Impression Excellent - very good.
Colors Excellent - very good … Silver colored metallic pigments.
Condition Very good … Light foxing and slight discolorations. Margins slightly soiled. Upper left margin corner thin, lower margin corners lightly creased.

Condition: Full size. Minor creases, marks and flaws. Generally very good state of preservation.

Condition good … several thin paper cracks around the back of the collar and lower left area otherwise in excellent condition.

Note All the prints in this series tend to crack where they were printed with mineral pigments. The pigments make the paper brittle over time.
