Title: Collection of New Ukiyo-e Style Beauties - Tipsy (variant colour)

Description
From the series, "Shin Ukiyo-e Bijin Awase" (Collection of New Ukiyo-e Style Beauties). September. "Horoyoi" (Tipsy).
This impression is a rarely seen color variant with blue-gray background. The design is usually seen with peach-orange background.

Height Image: 15.3 inches = 38.8 cm

Impression: Excellent - very good.

Colors: Very good … Silver metallic pigment. Brass colored metallic pigment on the ring.

Quality: Very good … Slight foxing in the margins. Slightly creased. Mat lines along the edges of blue-gray background. Mounting residue on top edge on verso.

Seal: Artist's seal (Choko).

Description: Three tear repairs to 1 inch bottom margin, numerous pin-size flecks in face pigment (restoration by touching up with compatable white pigment), 1/8 inch pigment repair in peach background, otherwise good state
Original Japanese woodblock print by Kamoshita Choko (1890-1967), titled "September - Tipsy" from the series "Shin Ukiyoe Awase" (Collection of New Ukiyo-e Beauties), 1924. This design was published by Murakami and is illustrated at plate 132 in "The Female Image: 20th Century Prints of Japanese Beauties", Amy Reigle Newland and Hamanaka Shinji, eds., 2000. According to the Editor's Notes on page 202, the Collection of New Ukiyo-e Beauties contains a number of sets of twelve images on the theme of the 12 months by different artists.
The print is lightly soiled and slightly faded. The image measures 15 1/8 by 9 1/4 inches, plus margins.
