CONDITION: This unframed print is in excellent overall condition and is not glued down. The back of the paper has the remains of four tabs along the corners which were used to hinge the print to a backing board when it was framed. There is excellent bleed through of the ink on the back of the paper. There are signs of typical very minor mellowing of the paper and acid burn along the outer edges of the margins from previous framing.

The margins of the paper are full and appear original and not trimmed. There are no stains, bends, folds, or tears to the paper. The lower right corner of the paper has been cut. This will not be visible when properly framed and matted.

MEASUREMENTS: The overall paper size measures approximately 10 3/4 inches in width and 16 inches in height. The plate size of the image measures approximately 9 1/2 inches in width and 14 1/4 inches in height.

Wonderfully done in a manner that blends traditional Japanese prints of the past with more modern Western styles, this is a 1954 vintage woodblock print entitled "Akasaka Benkei Bashi" by the noted master printmaker Shiro Kasamatsu (1898-1991). The Red Shiro seal is placed at the upper right corner. We are frankly floored by this print from Kasamatsu's solo period. The delicacy, detail and handling mark it among the finest graphic images we have ever carried.
