Japanese Woodblock Print by Kawase Hasui

Nara

Artist: Kawase Hasui

Date:1953 , Published by Watanabe Shozaburo

Image Size: Oban, about 10" x 15"

Condition: Fine color and bleed through, very good condition, some slight waves. Absolutely no water damage to these prints. I took these pictures outside and most of them show shadows, but there are not shadows or problems with the prints unless noted. May be a calendar print commissioned by Pacific Transport lines (edition of 500 copies), never been framed

This woodblock print is part of a hanging calendar / portfolio and each print is attached just at the top. The other paper shows yellowing around the edges but the print itself is in great condition. There are eleven other prints from this portfolio that I am listing individually.
This is an original limited first edition shin hanga Japanese woodblock print by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) titled "Nara". The print was published by Watanabe Shozaburo in 1951.
The Narazaki explains that 500 copies of this print and 11 others were attached to a 1952 calendar commissioned by Pacific transport lines in the time honored tradition of "meisho-e" ("pictures of famous views").

The print is in very good condition. Excellent impression, color and registration. Very good bleedthrough. No toning, folds or creases. There are a few barely preceptable spots of foxing on the image and on the margin. The print is not setdown or trimmed. Print size is 10.25" x 15.25"
This original woodblock print by Kawase Hasui (1883 - 1957) is titled "Nara" in the lower left margin. It measures 15" by 10 1/4" and is pencil signed "Hasui Kawase" in the lower right. This print is in very good condition with no stains, tears or repairs but does have minor toning and is tacked down along the top margin to a heavy paper backing. This beautiful and hard to find Hasui block print has good impression, vivid colors and excellent bleed through.
