Genji Fifty-four Emotions in the Modern Times

Artist: Kunichika
Format: Oban tate-e: 14.5" x 9.5"

Subject: A woman diver, 'Ama' with a spatula in her mouth getting into the sea and another diver working on a rock surface. Two other divers resting on a boat. The spatula is used to pry off the Awabi shells and other crustaceans from the rocks. In the inset in the shape of a book of the Tale of Genji and has Genji crest patterns.

Date: c. 1

Condition: Slightly trimmed. Re-margined at right. Some light offsetting. Minor soils, marks and flaws. Moderate state.

Colour: Fine colors.

Impression: Fine impression with gauffrage
