Lot #: 065 Artist: Keigetsu, Kikuchi, 1879-1952 Title: Heian Beauty Date: c. 1930 Medium: woodblock Dimensions: 19 6/8 x 13 5/8 inches Condition: Thin spot at left margin Comments: Mica highlights Estimate: Starting Bid: |
This is a beautiful woodblock print by noted shin hanga printmaker Kikuchi Keigetsu. Keigetsu's work can be seen in "The Female Image", the outstanding work on 20th century bijin-ga prints, although the print displayed in the book is not nearly as nice an image as this one. It is quite a large print, about double oban size, measuring about 20 x 14 or so plus margins. Sealed with red seal lower lefthand margin. There is extensive use of silver metallic pigment in the girl's kimono, mica throughout the background. The print is in good condition, with just some slight (very slight) creasing. Even this makes it sound much worse than it is in person; it is actually quite lovely. Beautiful color and impression, a very beautiful and unusual print, by an artist I have never seen offered on ebay. Compares very well with bijin prints by Shinsui, Suizan and Shuho.
