Notes (1st edition)Notes by Ross: The original "genga" sketches were drawn by Kiyochika not long before his death. Some trail prints were also produced around this time, possibly shortly after his death. The much reduced woodblock print series was finally published in 1929. See my notes here.

Egrets

Artist: Kiyochika
Format: Large oban yoko-e: 10.75" x 15.75" approx

Subject: From the series, 'Views of Japan'.

The blocks for this series were in preparation when Kiyochika died in 1915 and were first issued shortly thereafter. The set appears to comprise some 26 designs and is exceptionally rare. Each print bears the publisher's stamp verso together with the notation Kiyochika Fukei Shin-ga Hampu kai, I.e. of a limited edition.

Condition: Full size. Fine state of preservation.
