I recently purchased numerous works of art from an estate of a lady who was a world traveler. Her art was mostly oriental, Japanese in particular. Several of her block prints were by the noted Shin-Hanga artist, Kawase Hasui, 1883-1957. They were mounted in bamboo frames. I do not have any reference books on this artist, to name the wood block, so I will call it " Ducks on a Pond". All the items I purchased were from 1920 to about 1950, so I estimate this item to fall in the same age period, as Japanese characters are unknown to me. The Oban size is 14 3/8 by 9 1/2 inches. The colors are brilliant and the bleed through is great. Condition is excellent.

This is an genuine original Japanese woodblock print by great shin-hanga artist Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) titled "Mallard ducks (Magamo)". The print is dated Showa 25(1950). This print is original first edition published by Watanabe in October1950, and bears appropriate early 6mm seal on the left lower corner of the image (pay attention on closeup). One from the rarest Hasui’s prints in kacho-e (birds and flowers) style. Great impression, good color and registration. Signed by artist Hasui, has seal “Sui” in the image and titled in kanji at the left margin, has Ono Gintaro printer seal on the right margin. Oban size 15 1/4" x 10 1/2". The paper is slightly toned, two pinholes on top margin from drying process.
