KAORU KAWANO (1916-1965)
ORIGINAL WOODBLOCK PRINT
In the mid 1960's my parents went on an around-the-world trip with other physicians to attend an international Cancer Research Symposium and subsequently visit medical research facilities. Their final stop before returning to Los Angeles was Tokyo where they stayed at the marvelous Imperial Hotel. The Imperial Hotel was known as the home to the finest shops and galleries to be found in Tokyo.
While at the Imperial Hotel they purchased a number of original Woodblock Prints from "M. Nakazawa - Art Curios - Wood Block Prints" with the intent to immediately frame them for display. Well, as many good intentions go, the envelope of Woodblocks was put carefully into a drawer only to be discovered a couple of years ago when we finally sold the family home. This wonderful Woodblock Print, depicting a Young Girl with Lillies, appears to be in Excellent Condition with no tears, creases or foxing and includes its original matte.
The Print measures approximately 17" tall and 11 1/4" wide. The Print is marked on the front with a red seal, on the back with a black stamp and has the artist name written (signed?) on the back of the original matte.

Here we have an unusual Japanese wood block print which depicts a Girl with Lillies. The framed print measures approx. 10 1/4" X 16 1/4". Artist mark is stamped on the lower left side. Very nice condition.

This is a wonderful contemporary Japanese woodblock print by Kawano Kaoru (1916-1965); the print measures 11 ¼” by 16 ¾” and with its silk matting and frame measures 16 ¼” by 22 ½”. A haunting child’s face peers out from behind two white calla lilies on dark green stems. This beautiful print is in very good condition with no folding, tears or damage; I believe the mark on the reverse is a publishers seal.
