|Yasaka no To (The Pagoda at Yasaka) from the series Kyoraku Nesho (Famous scenes in Kyoto) by Nomura Yoshimitsu. Original woodblock print circa 1931. Same print displayed in the 1936 Toledo Exhibition. The ten artists shown at the exhibition are: Hakuho, Hasui, Kobayakawa, Kotondo, Shinsui, Shiro Kasamatsu, Shoson, Shunsen, Hiroshi Yoshida, and Yoshimitsu. Print is in very good condition. A little tape residue in upper corners. One small spot in sky. Limited edition Numbered 162/200 on verso. (See verso image which reads: Ni Hyaku Ban Kagiri Zeppan Dai Hayaku Rokuju ni Go.) Japanese title and Sato of Kyoto publisher's seal in right margin. Yoshimitsu characters and red Sankokai-in seal in upper right of image. 18 blocks used with 25 superimposed impressions. Compare with image 286 in the 1936 Toledo Exhibition Catalog. Rare and beautiful.
||Rare Nomura Yoshimitsu Famous Places of Kyoto Japanese Woodblock Print #3
Excellent item from the estate of a former US Navy Admiral. This print by Nomura Yoshimitsu is one of six that I have listed this week on Ebay. It is a hard to find set titled "Famous Places of Kyoto". It is in excellent condition with some minor soiling and light toning. The top is glued on a back board. It measures H 14 3/4 x W 9 1/2.

|This print was created by Nomura Yoshimitsu the great artist of shin-hanga in landscape prints. The prints of this artist could be in same line with the prints of Hasui , Shotei or Koitsu . Here is one of his great prints “Great Bell at Chionin” from the series “Famous places of Kyoto”. Was published and printed by Sato Shotaro in 1931, print bears the artist signature and seal in the image. Bears also publisher seal on the bottom of right margin. Oban size 9 3/4" by 15 1/4 " with full margins. Print reproduced and described in the 1936 Toledo catalog, also reproduced on page 206 in "The New Wave, twentieth-century Japanese Prints". Fine impression, excellent color , bleedthrough and registration - great condition. The print is not backed or mounted, never been framed .
