Condition:

This beautiful and traditional Japanese Woodblock print is in very good condition [i.e., clear and clean image, strong and bright paper, vivid colors, original full margins, no bend, no tear, slight but even age toning]. It was printed on high quality mulberry (rice) paper (with deckle edge at top, left, and right). There are some very minor stains spots and several minor abrasive spots around the edge of margin as shown by the detailed photo. The alignment notch at bottom left was as issued for plate registration and should not be viewed as a defect [and should never be trimmed off]. Ample photos [front, back, and details] in high resolution are provided for your convenience of identification and judging its high quality independently.

Description:

Asada Benji (????1899 – 1984, born as ????but often signing his name as ?? or Tangyu on woodblock prints, who had won several prestigious awards and praises) was a highly skilled Japanese artist particularly known for his traditional woodblock prints of various sceneries, birds, and flowers published by Uchida [??] firm during the 40s and 50s. His bird prints [like the current one] are often delicately done and are quite rare. This particular print depicted a Mallard duck [male] taking off from a lake with reeds [with light embossing].
This is a beautiful contemporary Japanese woodblock print of a duck in flight by the 20th century Kyoto artist Benji Asada(Fangu). The artist whose dates are 1899 to 1984 was a founding member of Kyoto Sosaku Kanga Kyokai. The print is published by Uchida and has the Uchida watermark as well as the shown stamp on the matte. The print measures approximately 17 ½” by 11 ½”. Except for some staining and toning this print with its spectacular color remains in good condition.
