DESCRIPTION: This eBay auction lot is a vintage Japanese woodblock print dated 1965 by Tamami Shima (1937- ). The title of this print is Whispering Horses.
The pencil signature of the artist along with the date is located in the lower margin (see photos).
CONDITION: This vintage Japanese woodblock print is in excellent original condition and free from tears, stains, foxing, creases, bends, or restoration. The back of the paper has excellent bleed through of the ink. The margins are full. There are signs of typical minor mellowing of the paper and light acid burn around the edges of the margin from previous framing. The paper was originally hinged along the top corners to a backing board. The tape is still attached to the top corners on the back.
MEASUREMENTS: The overall paper size measures approximately 11 3/4" X 16 1/2". The plate size of the image measures approximately 10 1/8" X 14 3/4".

This print is in very good condition and is pencil signed in the lower right corner "Tamami Shima". Ms. Shima also noted the edition, title (written in Japanese) and date in the lower left hand corner "11/100" and "1965". This is an oban size print - 11 3/4" wide by 16" high. This limited edition print exhibits the wonderful woodgrain for which Ms. Shima is very well known. There is an original gallery label tipped to the very top of the back of the print. |
