Ara River, 1932

Uedo Mokuhanga Limited Edition printing- This print is from a limited edition printing of famous shin-hanga landscape masterworks from the artists Hasui and Koitsu and printed by the publisher Uedo Mokuhanga. In the early 1960's Uedo Mokuhanga re-released a fine limited edition set of shin-hanga landscape prints. 26 scenes were chosen and the publisher printed 200 complete sets of 26 prints each. Each print was numbered in the individual sets indicating its place in the printing sequence. We are offering an excellent group of prints from this limited edition release. Our prints are from the 19th set of 200 and are numbered in pencil "19/200" in the margin under the publisher's information as shown below. These beautiful original prints were printed from the original blocks and are a nice opportunity to collect some of the most stunning landscapes of the shin-hanga period in a limited edition release.

Vintage Japanese Woodblock Prints Set of Five (5) Landscapes Bridge Pagoda 1950s

My father brought these back from Japan in 1954. He served in Korea from 1954-1955, and went on leave in Japan.

They were matted and framed in the early 1960s, but I took them out to photograph them. I am told they are in "fair to poor" condition, but are from major artists—Koetsu (?) and Hatsui (?). I don't know art, and they are not my style.

Measure approx 10.5 x 15.5 inches (some variation, less than 1/2 in).

Mounted on pasteboard.

Darkening and damage as shown in photos.
This item came out of the family home in San Antonio. My husband's father was stationed with the USAF in Japan in the early 50's, and we think they acquired this at that time. It is not signed. It was in a frame, we removed it from the frame, because the frame was damaged.

Ross: More proof that the Doi Hangaten in-line seals were used in the early 1950s. Note the printer seal Ito (Doi Suzue confirmed that two Ito printes/brothers worked for Doi in the early 1950s), and the carver seal Katsumura, indicating this print was printed from the original pre-war blocks.
