Fresh from a local estate sale, this nice vintage woodblock print created by the infamous listed Japanese artist Kaoru Kawano(1916-1965) The whole area of the paper measures approximately 8 by 10 inches, where as the area of the actual block measures 4.33 inches by 5.75 inches. I have not examined this item outside its frame, but it appears to be in nice condition. There is one light freckle or fox tone in the field. There are some pinpoint ink specks, which appear original and were likely part of the print process. The paper shows light toning with some waviness. The frame has some nicks and chips with two corners showing separation. This frame is original to the piece.
This Lady purchased Five of these Japanese Woodblocks from an Art Gallery in Chicago in the 1960's. I will be listing 2 by Kawano this evening. Japanese Artist Kaoru Kawano WoodBlock Print of a Cat. This Framed Woodblock Print measures approx. 11 3/4" X 9". Image measures approx. 6" X 4 1/2". In Good Condition. Light scuffing of frame, and some light foxing around edge. Professionally Framed. Note the original gallery price slip on back. Red stamp signature near left bottom of image.
