This is an genuine original Japanese woodblock print by great shin-hanga artist Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) titled "Moon over Kiyosumi garden” (Tsuki no Kiyosumien). The print is dated Showa 13 (1938). This print is original first edition published by Watanabe in 1938, and bears at the right margin appropriate Watanabe publishers seal (pay attention on closeup). One from the best Hasui’s views made in a very delicate color combinations. Great impression, good color and registration, clean backside, very good condition. Signed by artist Hasui, has seal “Sui” in the image and titled in kanji at the left margin. Oban size 15 1/4" x 10 1/4".
#316 KAWASE HASUI MOKUHANGASHU,(THE BIG BOOK) "MOON AT SEICHOEN GARDINS" JAN. 1938. Later printing from the original blocks. Perfect condition, image size 14.25"X9.5".

This is an original oban size, shin hanga Japanese woodblock print by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) titled "Moonlight at Seichoen Garden", dated Showa 13 (1938), and signed/sealed in the image by the artist. The print was published by Watanabe Shozaburo, bears the Watanabe 6mm seal (1945-1957) which makes this print a lifetime edition (published during Hasui's lifetime).
The print is in overall fine condition. Fine impression, excellent color and registration. No foxing, toning, folds or creases. The print is not setdown or trimmed. There are two barely visible mounting tape remnants attached to the verso of the print. Paper size is 10.5" x 15.5".

THIS IS AN ORIGINAL JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT - NOT A REPRODUCTION OF A WOODBLOCK PRINT. IT IS TITLED "MOON AT SEICHEN GARDENS" AND IS BY THE LEGENDARY WOODBLOCK ARTIST KAWASE HASUI. THE ORIGINAL PRINT WAS MADE IN 1938 BUT I BELIEVE THIS IS FROM A LATER PRINTING JUDGING BY THE WATANABE MARK IN THE LOWER RIGHT CORNER. AT FIRST LOOK THIS PRINT SEEMS TO BE A MONCHROME BUT IN FACT THERE IS QUITW A TONAL RANGE. THIS PRINT IS EXACTLY AS IT SHOULD BE - IT IS NOT FADED AT ALL. TO ACHIEVE THE SHADING EFFECTS REQUIRED EXTREME PRINTING EXPERTISE. AS IS COMMON WITH JAPANESE PRINTS, THE TITLE IS NOT NECESSARILY THE MAIN OBJECT. HERE THE MOON IS NOT SHOWN AT ALL, JUST MOONLIGHT. THE IMAGE SIZE IS 9 1/2" x 14 1/4". THE PAPER SIZE IS 10 1/4" x 15 1/4". THE PRINT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
