Offered for sale is a wonderful, pencil signed Japanese woodblock print by Hiroshi Yoshida (1886-1960), titled Soshu, 1940. This print is illustrated at pl. 236 of The Complete Woodblock Prints of Yoshida Hiroshi, Ogura, Tadao et. al., Abe Publishing Co., Ltd., (Tokyo, 1987). It has a jizuir seal in the left margin, evidencing that Yoshida himself approved of the quality of the print. It also has both a brush signature in the image and a pencil signature in the lower right margin. According to the aforementioned Yoshida catalogue, this print was based on the sketches made during Yoshida's second trip to China as a war painter in 1939.
This print is has very good color and condition, although there is a small wrinkle in the paper in the top margin, near the left corner, and residue from a prior mount on the top reverse corners. The image measures approximately 9 ¾ by 114 ¾ inches, plus margins.
