Monday, 18 April 2005 Ancient Court Wagon For Ladies by Ohno Bakufu. The detailing on this print is marvelous. Every slat in the blinds, every bit of braid in the rope, every tiny flower is delineated. And what marvelous spring flowers they are. There is a glorious weeping cherry tree with the striations in the cherry bark depicted. There are dandelions, plantains, violets, fiddlehead ferns, little narrow capped mushrooms, and pine seedlings. That yellow flowered bush could be forsythia, but maybe it is a special indigenous Japanese plant. The shading from ground into sky is beautiful. The lack of a definite skyline says this is a vision of past splendor. |
