THIS CA 1951 PRINT BY BAKUFU OHNO, 1888-1976, IS ONE OF A NUMBER OF PRINTS HE MADE DEPICTING JAPANESE GARDENS. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER THE GARDENS ARE REAL OR JUST IMAGINATIONS BUT THEY SHOW ALL ASPECTS OF TRADITIONAL JAPANESE GARDEN ARCHITECTURE. OHNO MANAGES TO CONVEY THE SERENITY OF THE SCENE IN A SUBTLE WAY. THE PRINT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND IS SIGNED IN THREE WAYS, AS ILLUSTRATED. THE IMAGE SIZE IS 15 3/8" x 10 1/2". THE PAPER SIZE IS 15 3/4" x 11 1/4".

Japanese Woodblock Print, Spring Park, B. Ohno Japanese woodblock print overall 11 7/8 by 15 7/8 inches, the image 10 5/8 by 15 3/8 inches, of a park in spring with two ducks swimming in the pond that fills the center of the print. Artist’s signature, in both Japanese and Western with the seal are located in the lower left corner. On the back printed in red is some Japanese and, “PRINTED by KYOTO-HANGA-IN 1951.” The print has been enhanced with opaque colors (presumably by the artist as it is signed in opaque colors). Condition: Excellent. This is a well printed crisp image with good bleed though showing on the back. The top corners are pasted to the paper mount. I would change the paper mat and mount as they are browning, but the print has no damage. Tuesday, 23 May 2006
