Title Drum Makers - Continuing Sketches of Occupations in Showa Era Artist Sanzo Wada 1883-1968 Signature Sanzo Seal Artist's seal Dated 1955 Publisher Kyoto Hanga - in Medium/Technique Woodblock print Impression excellent - very good … embossed, printed on a "Kyoto Hanga In" watermarked paper. Colors excellent Condition excellent - very good …light paper toning, lightly wavy on the margins, slightly creased. Description "Zoku Showa Shokugyo E-zukushi; Taiko Zukuri" (Continuing Sketches of Occupations in Showa Era; Drum Makers). The first of this large series was published by Nishinomiya Shoin in 1938 - 1943. It was very popular and even featured on the Asahi Newspapers every time the new design was published. It was interrupted by World War II. After the war, Kyoto Hanga-in made the continuation of it. This series was an interesting document of the new as well as the old, dying occupations in Japan in early to mid 20th Century. Note Carver shibamura, printer Ito.
