Japanese woodblock print. It has artist's seal and inscription. It the image measures 14 7/8" x 6 5/8". It is in fine shape with some pencil marks in the margins.
A wonderful Japanese woodblock print. The paper size is 7 1/2 X 16 inches and a medium weight. I have others listed that are on a much lighter weight paper. The scene is very colorful and in great condition. I have no idea who the artist was. I don't know anything about this school of art. They were in a collection of my aunts that she had for years. It has two labels on the back that say "H. Takemura & Co 45 Sunchome Bentendori, Yokohama, Japan" and a pencil written title the says "Asakusa Temple" (I think. It is hard to read the writing). There are glue remenants on the upper corners where it was hinged in a mat years ago.

There is some writing on the back on the top right hand corner. It is The number sign and then initials (#13 CCW) written in pencil and on the bottom between the two "H TAKEMURA & CO" labels is what appears to me as "Asakusa Temple".

An very nice colour woodcut of figures in the rain. On the reverse of the backing board in pencil it is inscribed "Oshiro/Ojiro - Shiro Kasamatsu. I don't know who the artist is, but I am sure it is Shin Hanga period and I have taken a close-up of the seal.

Overall time stained, most evident in the margins (see photos). The print is unframed and hinged at the top corners onto old straw board. Good strong colour.

Size: 15 x 6.5 inches (image)
