Notes (1st edition)Title and date taken from the large-oban sized print. The first edition was mitsugiri-ban in size, published pre-war, and has a Doi Sadaichi publisher seal on the verso. The other formats (oban, postcard, etc.) were most likely first published in the 1950's by Doi Eiichi (see our Koitsu Raisonne catalogue for further details).

This wonderful nature scene is a Koitsu classic. Koitsu was among the shin- hanga artists who did wonderful nature subjects like this snowy print with sparrows. Three birds are attracted to the bright berries on the snow covered branch.

This Koitsu print was published by the Doi publishers in the 1960's or 70's. It is not a recent release. The print bears the seals “Doi Eiichi and hanken shojo (copywrite reserved)” and the printer seal “kenji seki” indicating an earlier (not recent) printing. It also has the Doi watermark in the upper left hand corner in margin (visible in main photo)
