Prime Kiyoshi Saito Snow Woodblock Print

Beautiful woodblock print signed Kiyoshi Saito. Print area measures 10" by 15-1/4". Size with margins measures 11-1/2" by 17-1/4". Lovely snow scene. I removed this from the frame to photograph and will sell it without the frame. Woodblock is taped on the upper and lower margin with masking tape. It cuts in to about 1/4" of the margin. There is a tiny amount of creasing in the upper right hand corner of the margin but does not intrude into the woodblock. Good quality paper with the ink seeping through to the back side in places. Colors are solid, not faded. Overall very good to excellent condition.
We removed one side from the foam core backing, lifted it up and discovered tape residue on all four corners in the margins only. It does not show through to the front. There is almost imperceptable toning--very very slight. One has to look very hard to see it.

OFFERED IN THIS UNRESERVED AUCTION, IS ONE OF SIX, KIYOSHI SAITO WOODBLOCK PRINTS, ALL SIGNED BY THE ARTIST, WITH MATCHING FRAMES, RECENTLY PURCHASED FROM A LOCAL ESTATE. EACH WOODBLOCK WAS FRAMED AND MATTED IN THE 1950'S AND,IS BEING SOLD WITH THE MID 20th CENTURY FRAME. I HAVE REMOVED EACH WOODBLOCK FROM THE FRAME, IN ORDER TO PHOTOGRAPH AND, CORRECTLY DESCRIBE. THIS WOODBLOCK, MEASURES APPROX. 10 1/8" BY 15 1/2," WITH A PAPER SIZE OF 17 5/16" BY 11 5/8". THE FRAME MEASUREMENT IS 15 1/4" BY 20 1/8". THE ARTIST'S SIGNATURE IS WRITTEN IN SCRIPT, IN PENCIL, LOWER LEFT, ALONG WITH THE STYLIZED RED BLOCK LOGO OF THE ARTIST, TYPICALLY FOUND ON SAITO'S WOODBLOCK PRINTS. THE IMAGE HAS SHARP, CRISP DETAIL WITH STRONG, BOLD COLORS, ESPECIALLY FOR A WINTER SCENE, IT HAS NOT BEEN "LAID DOWN" AND, IS FREE OF TEARS OR CREASES. ON THE REVERSE SIDE, ALONG THE TOP EDGE, THE PAPER HAS RESIDUE FROM BEING ATTACHED TO THE MATTING WITH TAPE. THIS AREA MEASURES APPROX. 7/16" IN FROM THE EDGE OF THE PAPER AND, IN NO WAY EFFECTS THE IMAGE QUALITY. THERE IS A LIGHT BROWN TONED BLEED THROUGH FROM THE MATTING OVERLAPPING THE EDGES OF THE WOODBLOCK, IT MEASURES ON THE SIDES, APPROX. 1 1/4" WIDE AND ON THE TOP AND BOTTOM EDGES APPROX. 3/4" WIDE. IT IS APPARENT ONLY OUT OF THE MATTING AND FRAME AND IS BELOW THE SIGNATURE LEVEL OF THE WOODBLOCK.

The second;Aizu in Snow is basically the same dimentions and condition exept slightly yellowed.
