Triptych: Cherry Blossom Time at Chiyoda Castle.

Artist: Chikanobu
Format: Oban triptych: each sheet 14" x 9" approx

Subject: A picture of the ladies of Chiyoda Castle variously enjoying the Cherry blossom viewing and playing Blind Man's Bluff. The best site for the Cherry blossom viewing is partitioned off for the ladies with red and white awnings decorated with the Tokugawa mon.

Date: 1894

Condition: Very slightly trimmed. Retains Japanese album backing paper on verso. Minor offsetting, soils, marks and flaws. Generally good state.

Condition : A vertical fold-mark with areas of paper loss to right edge of left sheet, damage to right edge of centre sheet, otherwise generally fair impression, colour and condition.

Colors excellent - very good … burnishing
Condition good - fair … the right and the middle sheets pasted together, slightly soiled, album backing partially removed. Middle Sheet: red ink stains. Right Sheet: a separation (2 inch long) at the top end of the seam, a tear (1 inch long) at the top edge, red ink stains on the middle face and on the lower area.
Description "Chiyoda no Oh-oku" (The Ladies of Chiyoda Palace). Court ladies are enjoying the cherry blossoms and games at a park.
