Notes (this edition) These notes were written by the original owner/seller/auctioner of the item and may be inaccurate.: | Pair of Japanese woodblock prints. They appear to have a silk-like backing. Both have matching frames which have a bamboo surface. They have hand-made biscuit style joints. The tall one with the building in it has a water stain on the bottom center. Otherwise, both are in very good condition. I know nothing about these, other than they came from an estate, and had been stored for many years.

The artist is Hasui Kawase (1883-1957) and the title of this print is: Shichiri Beach in Soshu. The woodblock measures approximately 10-1/4" x 15-1/4". It has a D seal which dates it to between 1931 - 1941. The publisher is Watanabe. Very dramatic image in excellent condition. There is a slight buckling of the paper in the upper right. I am positive it can be flattened. It is housed in an original paper mat and backing and is lightly tacked in two spots on extreme top to the back. Colors crisp and great. It is signed in the left margin and also in the right margin, |
