This is a design by Hiyoshi Mamoru. It is one of the prints Hiyoshi made of Korean scenes.

There are seals on the right hand side of the print showing the names of the carver (Matsuda) and printer (Shimura), along with the publisher (Kyoto Hanga In).

This print shows women doing laundry in an outdoor setting. The gradations of the water are very nicely done. We're not sure how 'early' an edition this is: it does have the (carved) signature underneath the seal, which usually implies an early impression, but the black outline added around many of the figures is done quite heavily, a typical sign of later impressions of Hiyoshi prints …

Koreans doing laundry by Mamoru Hiyoshi. Genuine original shin hanga woodblock print circa early 1950s. Fine condition, color and impression. Oban size measures 10.7 x 15.5 inches. Kyoto Hanga-in publisher's seal, Ishimura printer's seal and Matsuda carver's seal in lower right margin. Signed M. Hiyoshi with red Mamoru seal in lower left of image. Nice texture on fine washi.
