It is a pleasure to offer this wonderful woodblock print by master Shin Hanga artist Tsuchiya Koitsu. This print is in wonderful condition. It measures 8 3/16 inches by 11 7/16 inches It was removed from the original mount in order to take pictures. The mounting consisted of gluing of the corners which were removed with ease and did not harm the print. There is no foxing or acid damage. The colors are rich and bright. No fading. No creases or tears. This print posses the publisher Doi Hangaten offset seals used in the early 1950s (possibly late 1940s) to early 1960s. The printer is Yokoi and the carver Harada. The watermark seal is also visible in the upper left hand corner.

Master Koitsu is regarded by most to be on par with HASUI. His classic Shin Hanga have gained world-wide acclaim. Master Koitsu is reknowned for his mastery of dramatic use of light and shadow. Authenticated by Master Koitsui's signature, Doi Eiichi seal, watermark and the all-important double-offset Harada/Seki seal. Most prints seen in recent times carry the Hamano printer's seal, signifying a more recent print. This print carries the earlier Seki seal. Seki worked for Doi for 4 decades prior to 1993. We would estimate this print was struck circa 1970 or earlier, making it more rare than some current later-editions.
