Impression Excellent … Very fine early printing. Colors Excellent. Condition Excellent - very good … A pin size hole on the upper left margin. Description "Tabi Miyage, dai san shu; Beppu no Asa". From the Series "Souvenirs of Travel III", an early morning at Beppu in Ohita prefecture. Elegant view of the quiet harbor. The Venus is still seen next to the crescent moon but the horizon is already having a hint of the rising sun. Narazaki described that the dark undulating lines of the sea waves were typical of this region. Note Watanabe copyright seal for 1929-1942. Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) titled "Beppu in the morning, Oita ". The print is dated Showa 3 (1928). Some prints by Hasui offered now on ebay are later editions of much less quality (sometimes from recarved blocks) This one is first prewar edition published by Watanabe in 1928, and bears the Watanabe “c” seal. The print is not trimmed or setdown. Great impression, excellent color and registration. Some soiling. Stained on right margin. Signed by artist Hasui, has seal “Sui” in the image and titled in kanji at the left margin. Oban size is 15 1/4" x 10 1/4".
