Notes (this edition) These notes were written by the original owner/seller/auctioner of the item and may be inaccurate.: | Some call this Moonlight At Matsushima but it's proper name is I think Futago Island in Matsushima. The writing on the right margins is the prewar date, December 1933. Has the small Watanabe seal bottom right, Hasui's mark is bottom left. Measures 15 1/2 by 10 1/2 inches. In mint condition, NO toning/stains/etc. Like the day it was printed. Tipped to an acid free mat it awaits your frame.

Kawase Hasui 1883-1957. Studied with Kiyokata Kaburagi. One of the most prolific and best known artist of the New print movement amoung Western collectors. This print measure 9 1/2 X 14, original period frame measure 17 1/2 X 21". Circa, 1920's. Printed on genuine rice paper from cherry woodblock. Pencil signed and titled on matte, Twin Islands at Matashima, original print. Full margin, no tears, creases, stains or foxing. Circular seal on lower left. Matte has a stain on left side and age toning. Rear backing paper is brittle. Print is in near mint condition, matte is in decent condition.

This is a fantastic Japanese woodblock print by Kawase Hasui and is entitled Futago Island, Matsushima It depicts a beautiful moonlit night. This is an original printing done in 1933. It has the old Watanabe seal (1929-1942) in the left hand margin. It has great color, full sheet, and great impression. This print is approx. 16 x 11 inches (Oban).

CONDITION: Excellent color, impression, condition. Two small foxing spots on verso which in no way show through or effect the image in any way.

KAWASE HASUI FUTAGO ISL MATSUSHIMA WOODBLOCK You are bidding on an early Japanese woodblock print by the well-known early 20th century artist, Kawase Hasui. The print measures 15 1/2" by 10 1/4" overall with a printed image measuring 14 1/4" by 9 3/8". The print is in good condition, but as can be seen in the photographs it was improperly framed and has sustained mat burn.
