Asada, Benji- Springtime at Ninnaji Temple- 2- sig.jpg is:
Asada Pagoda of Ninnaji Temple in Kyoto
This is an original wood block print from the Japanese master and national treasure Asada. This is not a contemporary print or copy. Please read my positive comments. It has the indentations on the back from the pressure being applied to it when printing. Each color is a separate woodblock layered one on top of another. You can almost see the grain of the wood. Many hours were spent carving the wood. The paper is hand made as well. Please see all the detailed photos. The title "Pagoda of Ninnaji Temple in Kyoto"; oban tata-e (14½" x 9½"). Signed "Asada" in Japanese with Uchida (publisher) seal underneath; "UCHIDA" watermark in lower margin near the kento notch. Ca. 1930s. Condition: good to excellent; full margins; deckle edges top, left, and bottom. |
Beautiful Japanese woodblock print of pagoda with trees and flowers/cherry blossoms. Don’t know the artist or age, but there is Japanese lettering/mark in the lower left, which someone knowledgeable about Japanese prints should be able to figure out. I was told that this was bought at the Carlyle Hotel Shop in 1968 for $450. Framed with bamboo design wood, linen covered mat, and gold inner mat. There is some scratching to the plastic (not glass) over the print, but rest in excellent condition. Total size: 16 ½” x 22 ¼”; print size, under mat: 9 ¼” x 14 ½”.

This beautiful Japanese wood cut print is by Benji Asada, and depicts springtime at Ninnaji Temple. The cherry blossoms are a very sensitive addition to this wonderful print. It is a full sheet, and in very good condition with beautiful color. The full size is approx. 10 1/2 x 15 1/2 inches.
