"Snow at Kansanomiya Shrine, Lake Tazawa"

Dated Showa 2 (1927)

Original atozuri wooblock print (later edition from original blocks) . Bearing the red Watanabe Heisei era seal in the margin. This indicates the print was created during the reign of the current Emperor Akihito, who ascended to the Throne in January 1989. Watanabe 7mm seal in the image at lower right margin.

Oban size print on thick, modern washi.

A Small Shrine in Snow, Tazawa Lake

This beautiful Hasui snow scene of the small shrine at Tazawa Lake is a wonderful snow image. It’s easy to get lost in this serene view of a desolate snowy afternoon. The printer has added a light mica to the ink giving the whole scene a shimmering glow- wonderful effect.

Signed- Kawase Hasui with red artist’s seal “sui”
Sealed- Publisher Watanabe, 7mm seal, later edition original, from original blocks
Image size- 14 1/4” x 9 1/4” (oban yoko-e)
Condition- Excellent, no toning, tears, not mounted, full margins.
The first edition with Watanabe A seal.
