| Notes (this edition) These notes were written by the original owner/seller/auctioner of the item and may be inaccurate.: | Original oban tate-e woodblock print by Kawase Hasui. I found this in a frame that was in very bad repair which I had to eliminate. Framed by T.Z. Shiota of San Francisco and annotated on the paper backing: "Chuzenji Utagahama, An original wood block print by Hasui 1883-1957, Dated: 6th year of Showa Era <1931>". This print has amazing depth and perspective. Strong bright colors, artist's red seal and signature at lower right. Watanabe seal at lower left. Very good condition. Some thin areas, tape remnants at reverse edges. |
"Lake Chuzenji, Nikko" -1931 Print size 15.50" x 10.25" (Full Oban) EARLY EDITION ORIGINAL Pristine gallery condition. Full margins; never laid down; no tears, folds, creases or foxing. We do note some ever-so-slight scuffing at the upper edge of the top margin, which in no way detracts from the image in any way. Good bleedthrough to verso. It should be noted that this stunning print has been titled and pencil signed in English by the hand of master HASUI himself. This stunning print also carries master HASUI's signature in Japanese, as well as his sui and the Watanabe 6mm seal. |
Sunday, 11 July 2010 Beautiful view of Lake Chuzenji seen from Utagahama. Two men make their way down wide steps towards a red torii gate at the edge of the water. A ferry approaches the shore, laden with passengers and the white sail of a boat in the distance. Signed - Kawase Hasui with red artist's seal "sui" Sealed - Publisher Watanabe, 6mm seal, later edition original, from original blocks Image size - 14 3/8" x 9 1/2" (oban) Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at two points along right edge from previous folio mounting. Slight creasing near edges. Please see photos for details. Very nice overall. |
