This is original Japanese woodblock print by rarely seen shin hanga artist Hiromitsu Nakazawa (1874-1964) from the series “Dai Chikamatsu zenshu” furoku mokuhan - `Matsukaze murasame sokutai kagami´ no Matsukaze ( The heroine Matsukaze in `Matsukaze murasame kagami´ by Chikamatsu Monzaemon, from the “Complete works of Chikamatsu”. Created c.1923. Aswe know this series contains 12 prints (each done by a different artist). This print is known also by name “Awabi diver” or “Mermaid” but this is western name because for japanese mermaids are some personifications of some evil spirits. This print reprodused in “The female image (20th century prints of Japanese beauties)” , pg.203. The print is not trimmed or setdown. Never been framed or mounted. Excellent impression, colors and registrations. Has artist’s seal Hiro. Self published. As all prints in this series carved by Yamagishi Kazue and printed by Nishimura Kumakichi (their names are on the bottom margin). Dai-oban 18" x 11 1/4".
