Edition of 350 Note: Carver Maeda. Printer Komatsu. Edition number in Japanese stamped on the back for pre-war strikes. Width Item: 16.1 inches = 41.0 cm Height Item: 11.2 inches = 28.5 cm Literature: Brown, Kendall; Amy Reigle Newland, "Kawase Hasui; The Complete Woodblock Prints", Amsterdam, Hotei Publishing, KIT Publishers, 2003, ISBN: 9074822460, - P. 395, pl.213 I have not seen an edition with Sakai Kawaguchi seals, suggesting this was first published by Kawaguchi. This fits with other evidence (i.e. Torii Kotondo editions) that suggests Kawaguchi split from Sakai Kawaguchi around the start of 1930.

Good bleedthrough to verso. Authenticated by HASUI signature and sui.

One of the 16 prints designed by Master HASUI for Kawaguchi and Sakai. The Kawaguchi and Sakai prints are considered by most experts to be among Master HASUI's finest works, particularly the lavish snow scenes.

The viewer can sense the quiet following the heavy snowfall in this lovely design. A beautifully colored scene around the Kamibashi accentuated by the fresh white snow. This lovely view of the Kamibashi is definitely a must for a collector in love with Hasui snow scenes or anyone taken by the wonderful Japanese landscape and architecture of Japan.
