Ginkakuji no Yuki (Ginkakuji Temple in Snow) by Kawase Hasui. Genuine woodblock print dated Showa 26 (1951). Later impression from original blocks. Oban size measures 15.9 x 10.5 inches. Fine condition. Red Hasui sui seal and characters in lower left of image. Heisei era Watanabe seal in lower right margin. Title and date in left margin. Nice ink bleedthrough. One of Hasui's best snow scenes.

Ginkakuji Temple in Snow

A wonderful Hasui snow scene of the famous Ginkakuji Temple in Kyoto. Two visitors stroll the grounds in this incredible setting during a snowfall. This beautiful scene is a wonderful example of Hasui’s mastery of winter beauty.

Signed- Kawase Hasui with red artist’s seal “sui”
Sealed- Publisher Watanabe, 7mm seal, later edition original, from original blocks
Image size- 9 ½” x 14 3/8” (oban tate-e)
Condition- Excellent, no toning, tears, not mounted, full margins.

Pristine gallery condition. Full margins; never laid down; no tears, folds, creases or foxing. This print is perfect in every way.

Good bleedthrough to verso. Authenticated by HASUI signature and sui.

This lovely snow scene is by the premier Shin Hanga Master. The use of sophisticated printing techniques, the gradation of colour (bokashi) is used extensively throughout this print.

This lovely winter scene at sacred Ginkakuji temple is awe-inspiring.

This print is authentic, not restrike or reproduction. I guarantee it. This is an genuine original Japanese woodblock print by great shin-hanga artist Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) titled "Snow at Ginkakuji Temple ". The print is dated Showa 26 (1951). Some prints by Hasui offered now on ebay are later editions of much less quality (sometimes from recarved blocks) This one is first edition published by Watanabe in 1951, and bears the Watanabe 6mm seal. The print is not trimmed, has full margins. Great impression, good color and registration. Some toning from the mat. Signed by artist Hasui, has seal “Sui” in the image and titled in kanji at the left margin. Oban size 15 1/2" x 10 1/2".
