THIS EXCEPTIONAL JAPANESE WOOD BLOCK PRINT is from the mid 1900's and was published by the Uchida Art Company, Ltd. of Kyoto. It is entitled NIGHT SCENE OF KIYAMACHI STREET and was done by Eiichi Kotozuka, regarded as a leading artist of landscape, flower, bird and figures. The image measures 10 1/4" by 15 3/4" and the page size is 12" by 17.5". In excellent condition(with strong bleed to the verso) and with its original title card from the studio in Kyoto.

Illegibly titled with "Koto" seal and Uchida han (publisher) seal in LR; publisher's mark LL margin.

"B. 1906 in Osaka. Grad. 1930 Kyoto Specialist School of Painting. Exhibited prints with Shun'yokai from 1932, Teiten from 1934. Member of Nihon Hanga Kyokai from 1938. Exhibited Japanese-style painting with Seiryusha from 1931; member from 1950. Series of Kyoto scenes, including Eight Snow Scenes of Kyoto published by Uchida, and a series of flower prints made with Tokuriki Tomikichiro and Kamei Tobei published by Unsodo. Associated with these two artists in Korokusha, a subsidiary of Tokuriki's publishing company which subsidized their sosaku-hanga." --'Guide to Modern Japanese Prints: 1900-1975' by H. Merritt and N.
