Japanese Woodblock Print

This is a nice Japanese woodblock print of a garden with fish swimming in a pond. The print is signed in calligraphy and with the red seal of Ono Bakufu (1888-1976), sometimes known as B. Ohno. There are also red publishing seals down the lower right side margin of the print. This print measures 16" wide x 11 1/4" high (including margins) and is in very good condition with no foxing or toning and not laid down but with tape remnants on the margins of the back as can be seen in the photo. There is a small 'Japan' stamp on the back.

THIS 1951 PRINT BY BAKUFU OHNO, 1888-1976, IS ONE OF A NUMBER OF PRINTS HE MADE DEPICTING JAPANESE GARDENS. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER THE GARDENS ARE REAL OR JUST IMAGINATIONS BUT THEY SHOW ALL ASPECTS OF TRADITIONAL JAPANESE GARDEN ARCHITECTURE. OHNO MANAGES TO CONVEY THE SERENITY OF THE SCENE IN A SUBTLE WAY. THE PRINT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDSITION AND IS SIGNED IN THREE WAYS, AS ILLUSTRATED. THE IMAGE SIZE IS 15 3/8" x 10 1/2". THE PAPER SIZE IS 15 3/4" x 11 3/8".
