Kawase HASUI (1883-1957) "NIGHT RAIN AT KAWARAKO, IBARAKI", -1947 Later edition ORIGINAL Image size 14" x 10" Condition "Pristine"-never laid down-full margins-no tears, no folds, no creases, no foxing, no stains-PERFECT! Good bleedthrough on verso (see scan). Complete with HASUI signature and Sui (see scan) and authenticated by Watanabe cartouche ad seal. Another one of Master HASUI's famous rain scenes. The rich, darkly elegant grays and blacks of the night, accented by the warm inviting glow from within the buildings is quite lovely. This print is very elegant! Scan shows slight discoloration on margins..this DOES NOT appear on the actual print! |
This Japanese woodcut print is by Kawase Hasui and published by Watanabe. It depicts a beautiful night rain scene. There is a geisha in the distance. It is a full sheet with full margins, approx. 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches. I believe that this is a very early state, perhaps the first state for this print, but I am not positive. The print is in good condition with wonderful color. This print (along with 9 others that I am offering) came out of a wonderful estate full of beautiful Japanese objects. The original owners had lived in Japan from the 1930's. |
