Shinobazu Pond

This print- The famous site of Shinobazu Pond in the twilight with a classic pagoda rising in the distance. Beautiful design and lovely soft colors. A stunning shin-hanga print and geat example of Koitsu’s best works.

From the collection of a Doi printer- We recently bought eight prints that came from the estate of a man who work as a woodblock printer for the Doi publishing company in the 1970’s. Some of the 20th century printers were known to have collected some of the woodblock prints that they were printing for their employer, in this case Doi Hanga. These eight prints were purchased from the estate of the printer by a prominent Japanese print dealer. We bought the group from that dealer and are offering all eight on Ebay tonight. The prints are very finely printed and in excellent condition. They are a nice chance to collect a more historic example of these subjects.

Signed- Koitsu with red artist’s seal
Publisher- Doi
Image size- 10 1/4” x 15 1/2” (oban)
Condition- In perfect condition with no issues to report. Nice color, excellent detail, not backed, not toned, no tears.
From my research on the internet, I found that this woodblock is called Veno Shinobazu Pond and was published in 1939 – Publisher Doi Hangaten – Format Oban – Image size 15-1/2” x 10-1/2” and the complete size including margins is 17-1/4” x 11-1/4”. It is in excellent condition and was framed when I bought it at an estate sale. It was only lightly secured in 2 corners and the top middle and was not damaged. Its condition is bright and crisp and clean.
