This print originally dates from 1935, although this is a somewhat later edition published after 1945. It has the 6mm Watanabe publisher's seal in the lower right corner. The artist's name and original date are written in pencil in the side margin as well as the print's location "Nikko". The condition of the print is excellent with strong colors. The back of the print is clean. The image size is oban, about 10 x 15 inches. |
This an genuine original oban size first edition shin hanga Japanese woodblock print by Shiro Kasamatsu (1898-1991), titled in kanji "Yomei Gate in Light Rain", and dated Showa 10 (1935).
This print is in fine condition and has never been framed. Fine impression, color, registration and strong bleedthrough. No foxing, toning, folds or creases. The print is not setdown or trimmed. The print was published by Watanabe Shozaburo and bears the Watanabe E seal (1932-1941). Image size is 9.5" x 14", paper size is 10.25" x 15.5. There is a penciled title in English "Buddhist Temple - Nara Shrine" and "Shiro" written at the bottom margin. There is also a penciled "12" with a circle around it at the lower left corner.
