You are bidding on a Japanese woodblock print “Rooster” signed by the famous Meiji master Kiyochika Kobayashi (1847-1915). This woodblock print is part of a large number of Asian art and Japanese woodblock print collections in my family. We are gradually selling them. The size of the woodblock print is 9 inch x 13 1/4 inches. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers on the print. Ink bleeding through can be seen at the back of Japanese Washi paper as shown in the picture and four borders are intact. This print is protected in a folder and is attached to a backing mat sized 13 X 17 ¾ only at the top one corner of the print. The mat has some stains, which are due to the print’s age, which do not affect the image of the print. Except for a tear, about 1 cm in size, at the lower left edge of the print, this woodblock print is in excellent condition. This woodblock print is a re-cut in Showa 9, which is 1934.
