Hi Ross,

Now I want to offer to your attention extremely rare and beautiful Koitsu print.
It's "Mt. Fuji from Motosu-ko Lake" ("aizuri-e" version). Published in 1934, 3 by Doi Sadaichi. Carver Ikeda, printer Ishikawa. Signed Koitsu and has "shin" seal. The impression is very fine. Skillfully executed "bokashi"shading to sky, distant mountains, trees, and water; nicely visible woodgrain; astonishingly life-like reflections. As always (in business with me) mint condition, I don't think another print in same condition even exists…. The size is 15,6" by 10,6".

Regards,
Eugene

Wednesday, 31 August 2005 This print is authentic, not restrike or reproduction. I guarantee it. This print was created by Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870-1949) He was the member of the group of artists like Kawase Hasui, Takahashi Shotei(Hiroaki), Shiro Kasamatsu who created the prints for publishers Watanabe Shozaburo, Doi Teiichi and others. The landscape prints of Tsuchiya Koitsu are notable for their dramatic use of light and shadow. Koitsu worked for Watanabe, also designed numerous prints for the publisher Doi Teiichi, and a few prints for Kawaguchi & Sakai and the Kyoto publisher Baba Nobuhiko. Here is “Mount Fuji fromLake Motosu-ko”, one of great prints published and printed by Doi Teiichi in Showa 9 (1934}, probably the best Fuji print of Koitsu published by Doi. Signed Koitsu and has artists seal Shin (true). Inscribed in Japanese on the right margin. Has publisher seal Doi Eiichi and carver/printer Harada/Seki seals, indicate it’s published c.1979. It’s one from the best designs of the artist. Oban size 15 3/4" by 10 1/2". Great impression, excellent color , bleedthrough and registration, pristine condition. Japanese woodblock print by Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870-1949). Fuji at Sunset. Dated 1934, published by Doi Eiichi. I can’t guarantee a date on this print, but the pencil note on the reverse states that it was purchased in 1987. A detail of the seals (Harada-Seki) is included. Clean and totally uncreased except for a tiny fold in the margin at the very tip of the bottom L corner. 10 1/2” X 15 5/8”.
