Subject: A young woman writes a poem card by the light of a hand-lantern held by her friend. Chapter XXXIV Wakaba-no-jo from the series Genjigojushijo.

Publisher: Takekawa Seikichi

Date: 1884

Condition: Fine colors. Japanese album backing paper. Minor offsetting, marks and flaws. Generally fine state of preservation.

Impression: Very fine impression with gauffrage.
This fine, genuine, period-printed woodblock print is by Toyoharu Kunichika (1835-1900) from the series 'Genji gojuyojo' (Fifty-four Modern Feelings Compared to the Chapters of Genji), 1884. In this series women are portrayed in various domestic activities.
The impression, color and condition are all exceptional. It is virtually a perfect, early impression in the best condition with full margins. It measures about 10 x 14 3/4 inches.
