Offered for auction is a Japanese woodblock print by Koitsu. Size of the sheet is 7.25 x 15.8 inches. The print has the Doi Teiichi Publisher seal in the left margin along with carver Ikeda and printer Yokoi seals. Yokoi by some accounts was the first Doi printer. It is known that his work on images by Koitsu in the late 1930's were so good that he was promoted to head printer. This print was first printed in 1936. Now the good news this print was framed in an old frame and when I took it apart there was a Japanese newspaper in the back of frame. It was dated Showa 13 which is 1938, so I think this may be a first edition. The print is in very good condition.

Old JAPANESE Woodblock KOITSU TSUCHIYA Miyajima

Super old Japanese woodblock from the master Koitsu Tsuchiya. Astist signature at lower right. Image size 6.5" x 14.25", paper size 7.5" x 16". Fresh and bright colors, no toning, a couple small glue spot with backing remnants on each left side corner at back. Fresh from a fine old Denver estate,

You are bidding on a Japanese woodblock print signed by Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870-1949). The print size is 16 x 7 1/2 inches. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers. The chop stamp of the artist’s signature is at the lower right corner of the print. In the right border, the Japanese writing says “Summer Beginning, Showa 11”, which is 1936 and the name of this woodblock print. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers. This woodblock print is not attached to backing paper or cardboard and strong ink bleeding can be seen through the back of print. This print was in a frame for decades. Except for minor wrinkles in the lower right border corner due to the print’s age, that does not affect the image of the print at all, this woodblock print is in excellent condition.
