Up for auction is a Japanese Woodblock. This piece is on rice paper,glued on a thin piece of cardboard. There is Japanese writing and a black stamp on the left side of print, and Japanese writing and a red stamp on the right side. Not quite 15" tall and about 10 -1/16" across. I do not know if the margins are cut on this print. There are a few spots (shown in picture) on the print. The colors on the print are a very muted mossy green and brown . |

Koitsu-Full Moon at Akashi Beach- 6mm.jpg is: Japanese woodblock print by the shin hanga artist Tschiya Koitsu. Ca.1930's. Print bears the round 6mm Watanabe publisher seal which indicates that this is a lifetime edition and not posthumous. Most Koitsu prints were published by Doi. This print is also a little different in color and design for Koitsu. Somewhat similar to the work of Hasui. Koitsu lived from 1870-1949. He studied initially with Kiyochika. Excellent color and impression with no flaws. Oban design measures 10.25" x 15.5". Print is signed and titled in pencil in the bottom margin. Title: Akashi Beach Near Bobe. However, this was routinely done by the publisher as Koitsu was not known to sign his prints in English. See scans. |

Koitsu, Tsuchiya- Full Moon at Akashi Beach- Full14.jpg: Friday, 30 September 2005 Here is a KOITSU Japanese Woodblock Print titled FULL MOON AT AKASHI. Removed from the frame which had the name and subject on the back. Condition is as shown with some moisture damage on bottom 1/5th of the print. Measures appx. 10 x 14 inches. There are printing mark on the right and left margins. The back is stamped made in Japan so I asume this was produced in the early 20th century in the 1930s. It has the Watanabe Color Print Co.; 6mm circular Watanabe . Thanks. |
I'm proud to offer this great block print by Koitsu Tsuchiya (1870-1949). Koitsu Tsuchiya became of pupil of Kiyochika Kobayashi in 1885 and from him learned the arts of the woodcut and lithography. Koitsu created slightly more than one hundred woodcuts, most of which are outstanding in their quality and craftsmanship. "Full Moon at Akashi Beach" image is of a pine tree branch reaching out on to the bay with sailboats and a full moon. Image area is 9.5" wide and 14.25" tall. Good condition with minor fade on front and discoloration on back of paper. Frame and glass recently removed. Signed Koitsu Tsuchiya with red artist’s seal. Publisher Watanabe seal 6mm |
