Offered for sale is a Japanese woodblock print by Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870-1949), titled Rain at Horyuji Temple, Nara, 1938. This design is an early Doi publication, as evidenced by the Harada/Yokoi carver/printer seals (Yokoi was only active as a printer through 1945).

This print is slightly faded, there is some scuffing in the sky field and there are tape stains across the entire perimeter of the reverse margins, which are still a bit sticky, and show only faintly through to the out front margins of the print. It is not backed and there are no repairs. The image measures 15 ¼ by 10 ¼ inches, plus full margins.

At auction is a circa 1938 Japanese woodblock print by Tsuchiya Koitsu. I hadn't identified this print or artist prior to this revision of this ad, but thanks to the assistance of a very helpful ebay observer the print is titled "Rain at Horyuji Temple, Nara, dated 1938. When I removed the print from the frame, there was a Japanese newspaper behind the print dated 1955, therefore the print probably was framed and sold in Japan around 1955. The print is loose, not glued down, and has its full margins. It measures 16-1/2" x 11". Overall the condition of the print is very good with good color, no damage, no holes, no tears. There is some light toning on the margins, but no stains or fauxing on the print.
