Saturday, 23 April 2005 Rain at Lake Hakone by Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870-1949) A handsome image with beautiful coloration. Image size is 10 inches by 15.5 inches. Published by Doi Hangeten with the Doi watermark at upper left. Carved by Harada and printed by Yokoi. The photos tell the story of the condition. Please examine them closely and bid on what you see. The paper shows moderate age toning, heavier on the verso. It come in a matted folder showing it was purchased from M. Nakazawa - Fine Art Curios - Especially Original Old Prints - Opposite Imperial Hotel - Tokyo. My guess is it was purchased just before or just after the war. The folder and matt show moderate soiling and age toning. |

Prints made by Seki are somewhat rarer than other Doi prints; also Seki's abilities as a printer a generally better than other printers. Size: (large oban) approx. 11.375" x 17" Condition: Fine, in absolutely perfect condition Impression: Fine, unbroken keylines, nice texture and clarity Color: Fine, gorgeous composition, excellent bleed through from deeply saturated color. An exceptional and rarely seen print by Koitsu. |
