JAPANESE WOOD BLOCK PRINT - MT FUJI - LAKE - PINES - CHOP MARK JAPANESE WOOD BLOCK PRINT of MT FUJI. Very serene view with large pine trees in the foreground and pink sunrise reflecting on the snowcapped mountain. A chop mark is in the lower right. No back marks. The owner said it was a "SHINAGAWA". It is simply framed in a black painted wood frame, under glass. I was told this piece, and many others I purchased, were obtained by the original owner ( the seller's father) in Japan in the 1960's, however I don't really know the age of the prints. The framed piece measures 13" x 17". The viewable wood block print measures 9-1/2" x 14". Condition is Very Good, with no damage.

Title "(Fuji From) Lake Kawaguchi" ("Kawaguchi Ko");
Date 1933; first edition;
Publisher Doi Teiichi;
Seal, Carver/Printer Yamada/Goto (Goto printed for Doi c1931-35, died 1952);
Image Size 9.5 x 14.25, "oban";
Condition Excellent. Strong colors. Flawless;

This is an original shin hanga oban size Japanese woodblock print by Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870-1949) titled "Fuji from Lake Kawaguchi". The print is dated Showa 8 (1933) and published by Doi Teiichi. The print is in fine condition. Fine impression, color and registration. No foxing, toning, folds or creases. The print is not setdown or trimmed. The print is titled in kanji along the right margin, signed and sealed in the image. This print bears the "Doi Teiichi" publishers seal and the Yamada/Goto carver/printer seal. Goto printed for Doi from 1931 to 1935. That makes this print a very early, if not first edition print. There is extensive use of very crisp guafrage in the clouds, the black gutter lines along the edges of the image are very strong and defined, this also points to a very early edition. Image size is 9.25" x 14.25, paper size is 10.25" x 15.5".

For your consideration, a Japanese woodblock print by the craftsman Koitsu. When I purchased this beautiful print, I was told that it was made in 1936. I do not know anything about these prints. The print is in excellent condition. There is a minor tear on the right side,

You are bidding on a Japanese woodblock print “The view of Mt. Fuji from Lake Kawagochi” signed by Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870-1949) made in May Showa 8 (1933). Koitsu is a well-known woodblock artist in Taisho/Showa Era. He is as famous as Kawase Hasui and Hiroshi Yoshida. They opened a new Era of Ukiyoe and formed the core of Shin-Hanga. Koitsu’s work is highly searched for by collectors. This woodblock print is a part of a large number of gorgeous, different-styled Japanese woodblock print collections, which we are gradually selling. The print size is 15 1/2 x 11 1/4 inches. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers. The artist’s signature and his chop stamp are close to the lower right edge of the print. All four borders are intact. In the lower right border, the Japanese writing says the name of this woodblock print “Mt. Fuji” and “Made in May Showa 8”, which is 1933. This woodblock print is attached to a backing paper only at the top edge of the print and strong ink bleeding can be seen through the back of print.
